Australia Immigration to Queensland for Businesspersons and Investors

Queensland is one of the most ideal Australian states for investment and entrepreneurship – primarily owing to its low operating costs for businesses, highly skilled workforce, and strategic location in the Asia-Pacific region. In order to invest in or own and operate a business in Queensland, aspirants must choose an appropriate Australia immigration pathway.

To obtain a Business Visa for Australia, candidates are first required to secure a state nomination. Business and Skilled Migration Queensland (BSMQ) is the state authority that nominates people interested in moving to Queensland for permanent residence (PR). Nominees must apply for PR to the federal immigration authority – the Department of Home Affairs – which decides the final visa outcome.

There are several visa options for business immigration to Queensland. Interested candidates can select the ideal pathway for their profile and purpose by consulting an authentic agency that provides legitimate Australia immigration services.

Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 188) is only valid for four years. However, holders can eventually apply for permanent residence through the Subclass 888 visa, provided certain requirements are fulfilled. BSMQ nominates Subclass 188 candidates under the following visa sub-categories or ‘streams’:

  • Business Innovation Stream – to own and manage an existing or new business in Queensland.
  • Investor Stream – for business owners and investors to invest in Queensland Treasury Corporation Bonds.
  • Significant Investor Stream – to make a significant complying investment in Queensland.
  • Entrepreneur Stream – to commercialize an innovative business idea in Queensland.

Business Talent (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 132) allows foreign nationals to permanently migrate to Australia by qualifying under one of the following streams:

Significant Business History Stream – for affluent business owners/part-owners to perform a major management role in an existing or new business in Queensland.

Venture Capital Entrepreneur Stream – for those who have secured funding from the Australian Investment Council (AIC) for the purpose of a start-up, commercialization of a product, or development of a promising high-value business idea.

Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 888) allows eligible Subclass 188 visa holders to permanently live and work in Queensland in order to own and manage a business or investment in the state.

Business Owner (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 892) allows people who have fulfilled the requirements of the Subclass 160, 163, 164, or 165 visa to permanently relocate to Queensland, to own and manage an existing or new business.

Investor (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 893) allows those who have satisfied the requirements of the Subclass 165 Visa to become permanent residents for the purpose of maintaining investment and business activity in Australia.

There are currently no temporary visa pathways available for business immigration to Queensland.
Queensland has a secure and stable economy, and liberal government policies that support business development. The projected growth rate is also an encouraging indication for Australia immigration aspirants. By identifying a suitable visa option, meeting some straightforward requirements, and following due process; entrepreneurs and investors can purchase or establish an enterprise, and further explore their business acumen in Australia.
